Post109 Events

The American Legion Post109 members are involved in several events throughout the year supporting service personnel and the community.

EVENTS: 

Memorial Day -

Members meet on the Town Square and place memorial crosses and flags for those who died serving our country in wars. 

A Memorial Day service is held at the Court House in honor of our fallen service personnel.

Schools  

                   Oratorical Contest - The Oratorical Contest presents participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important leadership qualities, the history of our nation's laws, the ability to think and speak clearly, and an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship.

Local/Post Contest completed in February

                 JROTC Awards     -    The American Legion is a strong supporter of Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC).

                 BOYS / GIRLS STATE   American Legion Boys/Girls State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high-school students. A participatory program in which students become part of the operation of local, county and state. government.

                Veterans Day Program - Post109 in participation with Hartwell High School provide a Veterans Day Program in November. Veterans Day observances traditionally honor all who have served in the U.S. military. Memorial Day is designated as a day of remembrance for those in our military who have died while defending this great nation during time of war.

Golf Tournament    - Post109 has an annual golf tournament in April to generates funds to support their involvement in community programs. 

New Officers Installation  - New Officers are elected and installed in July.

Christmas Party  - Post109 has a Christmas party in December where each member will donate a toy to a charitable organization.

Veterans Assistance  - Veterans assistance is provide when needed in accordance with Post109s' ability.
