American Legion Post 109

Supporting Our Veterans and Community!

Legion Post 109 presented Carolyn Howard of the Legion’s Auxiliary a check for $503.00 for the “Support Our Troops” program she directs. This effort involves sending boxes of incidentals and personal items to deployed troops. Postage is the biggest obstacle because each box costs almost $14.00 to send.

This gift was made possible when Vice Commander Bobby Bowen teamed with Home Depot to raffle a quality American Flag and staff at the Pre 4th celebration on the square. He and his team which included Bruce Jones and John Owsiany, sold over 200 tickets to patriotic citizens.

The winner was Michelle Mathews. She and her family attended the Legion Post 109 meeting at which time she was presented her flag.

Later, Grand Knight Robert Satter, Knights of Columbus, Sacred heart Church, presented Mrs. Howard with a check for $300.00. The Knights of Columbus dedicates their monthly breakfast to a specific cause and they chose the Support Our Troops program.

Another $20.00 donation was given because Vice Commander James Fulghum found $20.00 bill inside one of the flags left for disposal thanking the Legion for their efforts.
